Come for Coffee

On the morning of Saturday 18th September, mum is hosting a coffee morning as part of the Macmillan Cancer Support 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' event.

The official date is Friday 24th September, but as we will be in London then, mum's is a little bit earlier.

When dad was diagnosed with lung cancer last Christmas, Macmillan were one of the agencies who were there to offer help, support and advice, so this is just a little way to say thankyou and give something back.

Everybody very welcome; it goes without saying, as it's actually being held in MY house (well manipulated mum!), tea will also be available ;-)

Sounds like a great idea! Sorry I won't be able to come...

But if you PM me on Facebook with your address* I'll supply the coffee. (Please tell me you have the means to make proper coffee - not instant!!)

*I feel obliged to remind any kids reading not to ever give out there address on line. Maybe a few adults shouldn't either.

Oh Cosmo! What a very thoughtful and generous offer, how can I refuse coffee from the coffee connoisseur himself??!

(Yes, I have the means to make proper coffee and not just instant, and I shall make sure he is available on the day to make it!)

Watch this space for further updates....

I meant to ask...will you be using a standard filter coffee machine, or a caffetierre, or something else?

In order to get the most from the coffee the grind should be specific for the method to be used. But of course you knew that already.

Or would you prefer whole beans to grind yourself?

Oh yes, of course I knew that!!

Ummmm.... leave it with me and I'll get back to you....

ok, I believe it is coffee for a cafetiere I will be needing. Please grind the beans for me!

Thanks again, I look forward to sampling this myself :-)

I got word that the beans have been roasted today and are in the post to you. You should (!) get them in the next couple of days.

A quick tip for the best cup:

You should aim to use 60grams of coffee per litre of water. (30g/500ml; 45g/750ml). If you have a set of digital kitchen scales you'll be grand.

Boil the kettle. Let it come off the boil for about a minute. Put the cafetiere on the scales, zero out and add the coffee to required amount (this will depend on how big your cafetiere is), let's say 45g. Leave the cafetiere on the scales and zero out again then pour in the water making sure all the grounds get wet. Pour until the scales say 750g (which is very close to 750ml). The coffee will be so fresh you'll see it 'bloom' as you add the water. Put the lid on to keep it warm - but don't plunge! Let the coffee brew for four minutes then plunge and serve.

Should be delicious!

Hope it all goes well.
