Fun Monday

The hostess for this week’s Fun Monday is Rayne at Crunchy Bits and she wants to know what junk thing or things I hang on to. Well, here they are : Receipts ... literally thousands of receipts. I have more till roll in my receipt box than Tescos have in their local supermarket!

I went through a few of them to see what they were for, and apart from several hundred grocery receipts, I found one for a toilet seat we bought in November last year (what, did I think we were going to return it after all this time??), there was one for a jumper from Next which, having worn to a frazzle, I sent to a charity shop last week and one for an eyebrow wax in a beauty salon that has been closed for 18 months!

I didn't take time to work my way right to the bottom of the pile, but the oldest receipt I found was one dated 16/09/06 for some cushions I bought in Dunelm Mill. How ironic, that's two years nearly exactly to the day.

You have yourself one serious receipt collection.

I have a slew of them in my checkbook, and they are vital to me. Without them, I can't get reimbursed, so they get protected fiercely. Once, in getting out of the van my purse slipped off my shoulder, landing on the ground open. A giant gust of wind spread my receipts to the ends of the parking lot and without hesitation, my kids knew what to do. To the north, the south, the east and west, they all dashed to capture them all - I'm glad I wasn't alone. I would still be there sttempting to catch the wind.

So...what will you do with your collection?

I keep my receipts, too, though not quite as long!

we save those too. the last three years they have added up to more than the minimum deductible on sales tax ... so it's been a good deal.

However, last week I pulled one out of my purse and gave to the hubby and he looked at it and started laughing. It was from December 2001. Heck!

Oh my gosh....this is just too good.
You're the first one I'm visiting for Fun Monday, and all the receipts and your comments made me laugh.

Excellent collection.

Happy day to you.

Oh my goodness. i have the opposite problem...i usually can't find one when i need it because it has been thrown away!

I collect them too, then every few years I just throw them all out without even looking at theme.

I keep mine long enough that after awhile, I don't feel guilty for throwing them away.

I have an idea...why don't we just exchange receipts. Don't you think it would be more fun to go through someone else's receipts?

Jessie, I think I will have to be ruthless some day and just bin the all.

Judy, I have those too ...

Swampy, that sounds like an excellent idea!

You have reminded me I also keep receipts but didn't even think about the huge bag full I have when I did my post. For fun I have just put my hand to the bottom of the bag and it's dated 2005 that will give you an idea of how many I need to sort and shred!

Oh my gosh! That is so funny. My youngest daughter is the same way with receipts. She's only 15 but already has quite a collection going on. I think she has saved the receipt from virtually everything she has ever bought. She says she likes to look back and see what she has shopped for. It's like a shopping journal or something.

I keep receipts for about a year. The only thing that has helped me NOT hang onto them is my new paper shredder. The part of me that enjoys seeing things destroyed LOVES the shredding more than the hoarding!

I live on my debit card so I try to hold on to them long enough to record them.

When my folks moved out of the house I grew up in we found dozens of boxes filled with bills, reciepts and old checkbooks going back almost 50 years...My mom was the queen of packrats

Wow. That is a giant pile of receipts.

This reminds me of an art piece I saw at a gallery once. The guy made this gigantic sphere-ish type thing out of all of the junk mail he received in a certain period (I think it was for a year or two that he saved it). Instead of trashing it, he made art. It was as big as my bedroom.

I wish I was better at keeping my reciepts especially when tax time rolls around.

I wish I kept all my receipts, for some reason the ones I need to keep are the ones I throw away, I once bought milk and it went bad and I went back to the store to claim my milk and they asked me for the receipt and I told them, I do not keep receipts for perishables...maybe if I were you, I would be having my receipt

Ha! That is history my friend, not junk! :-) Great post! Happy Monday!!

Guess I should have added that one to my long list of collecting problems. Just this summer I finally threw reciepts from
my first marriage dating back to 1992. I still have boxes full going back the last four years. And I don't need any of them!

I almost listed receipts too but I really do pitch them when I go through my purse and I only keep the ones I really need - for business.
